Film makers take acting to the max

MOVE over Jackie Chan, stand aside Bruce Lee – here comes Timothy Ly.

The 23-year-old is the mastermind behind a martial arts feature film shot entirely in Fairfield.

As well as writing the script for Maximum Choppage – Round Two, Mr Ly produced, directed and acted in the film.

“The film is about a local martial arts champion who teams up with his cousin to go out and meet girls,” he said.

“They meet this girl and vie for her heart.”

A number of local landmarks are featured in the film including Bonnyrigg Buddhist Temple and parts of the Cabramatta CBD.

Now in the final stages of filming, it has taken almost four years to produce.

“We want to bring the fun and adventure to western Sydney,” he said.

The film features eight amateur actors, who also take on roles in production.

Producer Maria Tran plays the film’s villain and the 23-year-old said most of the people working on the film were local.

“We used a normal Sony holiday camera, which makes it more impressive,” she said. “We are determined to finish it but it just gets bigger and bigger.”

Maximum Choppage – Round Two
will be screened at the Fairfield School of Arts in September. Entry is free.
